We are looking for that special someone who enjoys delivering excellent customer service with a big smile, has good attention to detail and enjoys working in a close team. Previous barista and Front of House experience is essential. 


This Shift Leader position is a practical, hands-on role, with the majority of time spent preparing our delicious food and drinks and serving customers. Barista experience is essential. The days / hours can be flexible for the right candidate, though Sunday working is a must. A job share will be considered.

This Shift Leader role is an integral part of the Rumsey’s team, and is responsible for leading the day’s shift to ensure everything runs smoothly for both customers and staff members. The candidate will work alongside our Cafe Manager to lead more junior members of the team. The candidate must be confident in making decisions and delegating, as well as getting stuck into all aspects of front of house work. The candidate will prioritise delivering great customer service in an efficient manner, and will be confident in leading by example to achieve this.

The role will run trial shifts and be responsible for taking on some aspects of training for junior staff members. The right candidate will be friendly and supportive, encouraging their team to develop new skills and progress.

The job includes baking-off pastries and biscuits, cutting cakes and preparing other sweet-treats, as well as making speciality drinks such as our house hot chocolate and coffee. The candidate will also be responsible for opening and closing the shop, cashing up, stock takes, and other administrative jobs as required.

The Shift Leader will work with the Production Team to ensure that chocolaterie looks attractive with the shelves are fully stocked and customers aware of the speciality chocolate offerings made at Rumsey’s, including upselling certain products. The role is responsible for ensuring that the chocolaterie is clean and tidy at all times, and that staff are adhering to health and safety rules.


  • At least 18 months front of house experience.
  • Desirable to have at least six months experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience of leading and motivating a team, including training.
  • Passion for good food and drink.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Barista experience.
  • Ability to work quickly while remaining welcoming and friendly to customers.
  • Confident communicator, able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work on Sundays.
